Abstract: Medium Voltage (MV) drives offer flexible and reliable modular design for single as well as multi motor applications with power range from 3 to 36 MW. There are two kinds of testing, manual testing and automated testing. The problem of Manual testing is that it can be time consuming and tedious as well as hazardous to human life as high voltage is involved. This thesis proposes the technique of automated testing. Automated testing will be more efficient, risk of hazard will be reduced and test report generated will be easy to understand Testing of drive application will incorporate the parameters with respect to motor load and auxiliary functions required for healthy operation of drive. While testing of drive functionalists will include the parameters responsible for the safety and protection of the drive itself. The automated approach of testing protection schemes on a real-time simulator is best suited to quickly identifying fault scenarios of interest. In automated testing the control software will be tested with help of test cases written for various control functionalists. The test cases will be written using Visual Basic. This will be then loaded into a test runner to run and test the control software.
