Abstract: Electric vehicles are becoming more popular because of limited resources of fossil fuels and increased importance of environmental friendly system. Electrical motor is one of the important elements in drive system of any electric vehicle. Electrical motor used in electric vehicle must be energy efficient and compact. Application of permanent magnet in place of electromagnet significantly enhances efficiency and power density. The permanent magnet motors are classified into two categories: 1) Radial Flux motors and 2) Axial flux motors. In radial flux motors the flux travels radially and the current travels axially. In Axial flux motors the flux travels axially and the current travels radially. As compared to radial flux motors, the Axial flux motors offer high efficiency, high power density and at shape. Axial flux motors are more compatible with electric vehicles because of its at shape. This project aims at design of dual air gap PM motor for a particular vehicle application. The parametric analysis is carried out for tuning of design variables. According to design outcome Finite element modeling is carried out for its validation.
