Abstract: SRM is of recent origin. It is a doubly salient single excited motor. It has many advantages like high efficiency, robust construction, winding less rotor, inherent over current protection, mutual coupling, wide speed range, and less temperature sensitive. In this project the sizing of three different standard rating Switched Reluctance Motor is carried out with proper assumption of various design variables. Performance parameters are estimated based on design variations. Finite element method is required to validate the design. The output data of analytical design is used for the Finite element analysis using finite element software i.e. Motor solve software. Switched Reluctance Motor has major disadvantage of poor torque quality. Thus in this project torque ripple improvement methods have been applied for the standard rating i.e. 5 hp Switched Reluctance Motor.
