Abstract: | Friction Stir Welding is widely used for the welding of aluminum alloy. Aluminum alloys are used in defense and aerospace applications due to required combination of high strength to weight ratio and toughness. In present study an attempt has been made to analyze the macrostructure, microstructure and mechanical properties of the friction stir welded AA6061 aluminum alloy – Pure Cu by varying various welding speed and tool offset. The nugget zone consisted of a mixture of recrystallized aluminum matrix and deformed and twinned copper particles. Microstructure variation significantly affects the micro hardness distribution in the cross-section of the joint. Maximum tensile strength obtained is 185.861 MPa at 40 mm/min welding speed and 1mm tool offset towards Al side. |
