dc.description.abstract | Electric overhead crane (EOT) used as material handling equipment are widely accepted in industries. Among all its components, bottom pulley hook block is very critical for effective functioning of EOT crane hence its selection must be based on cost criteria and feasibility. It should be designed considering factor of safety and which results in error free output. Design of bottom pulley hook block up to 16 falls using single axle is allowable as per IS 4137 and IS 3177 for cranes. Use of higher number of fall has advantages like; increase numbers of pulleys which simplifies operation at higher speed. However, increased number of falls will enforce longer axle. One may seek the solution of the problem with the use of two axles. It will also help to improve the lifting height for an object. The design of bottom pulley hook block with 16 falls. It accommodates 8 pulley in to two block of pulley. Each block may contain separate axle. In this project work, new design of bottom pulley hook block for 175 T capacity general purpose double girder EOT crane is carried out. It includes selection of falls, bearing, design of pulley, axle, shackle plate and hook. The bottom pulley hook block is design with two alternative design. Among two design, one is consider as existing design, second alternative design is optimized design. Selection of optimized design out of available existing design based on cost criteria and feasibility. It is found that the optimized design is more beneficial than the existing one from the dimension calculation and cost calculation. One can say that the optimized design is 15.25% weight reduction of bottom pulley hook block from the existing design. | en_US |
