Motor with compact size and high efficiency significantly reduces energy consumption and improves the overall performance of the system. So permanent magnet synchronous motors are widely used for the different electric drives applications such as servo application, electric vehicles, fan, submersible pump etc. Therefore, this project is concentrated on the permanent magnet synchronous motor to achieve high efficiency and compactness. Three different ratings permanent magnet synchronous motors are designed using high energy magnets and design optimization has been carried out for design improvement. Electromagnetic field analysis has been done to establish the correctness of initial designs. The application of better materials in order to improve the overall performance of the designs is also accomplished. Cogging torque is one of the biggest problems in permanent magnet motors as it deteriorates the quality of torque. Cogging torque is reduced with core bridge width variation, magnet inner gap variation, core inset radius variation and magnet outer gap variation techniques and results are shown.en_US
