Internet of Things (IoT) is the term used for interconnection of different devices con- nected to one other either wired or wirelessly. The different means of connection used are Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Zig-Bee, Bluetooth, etc. The standard used in IoT is Bluetooth because of its low cost and low power consumption features. In this thesis, the interconnection of smart-watch, smart-phone and satellite phone called the Satellite Mobile Radio (SMR) module using IoT technology has been designed. This system is mainly being developed for users such as soldiers, hospitals, oceanic swimmers, etc.. The smart-watch and smart- phone are connected to the SMR module via Bluetooth and the data collected will be sent to the HUB station via Satellite Communication Technology and vice-versa. Blue- tooth Advertisement is a way to transmit data by broadcasting and not by pairing of the devices which is required for sending data from one device to another. At a time many devices can receive the same data by broadcasting. This feature is supported in Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) version 4.0 and above. The device which sends the data be- comes master and the devices receiving the data are slaves and vice-versa. Slaves should be in continuous scan mode for receiving data, otherwise data packets will be missed to receive. Bluetooth Pairing is a way to transmit data via interfacing between two devices. Bluetooth Pairing is a master-slave interface. The master sends request to the slave for pairing and the slave accepts the request. One master can have only one slave in an end- to-end connection. The transfer of data takes place in half-duplex manner. The purpose of developing this system is to continuously monitor health (heart rate and air pressure rate) and Global Positioning System (GPS) coordinates by developing application using heart rate sensor and barometer sensor embedded in the smart-watch. Mobile application is used to monitor GPS coordinates and offline tracking with safe zone marking, to chat and for transmitting voice packets in the remote areas where there is no cellular network available. The health monitoring application developed for smart-watch measures heart rate, air pressure and GPS coordinates and send data to SMR via Bluetooth Advertising and receives data by Scan Mode. The SMR then sends the data to the HUB station via Satellite Communication system and vice-versa. The chat application developed for smart-phone sends and receives text messages by Bluetooth Advertising and Scan Mode. The messages are Advertised to the SMR and SMR sends the messages to the HUB station via Satellite Communication system and vice-versa. The GPS coordinates appli- cation developed for smart-phone measures GPS coordinates of the user and Advertises it to SMR and SMR sends the coordinates to the HUB station via Satellite Communication system. The offline map and tracking application developed for smart-phone obtains the user location and shows the location on the offline map. It continuously tracks user lo- cation and moves pointer according to the change in location. The voice communication application developed for smart-phone communicates with SMR by Bluetooth Pairing. The SMR is paired and connected to the smart-phone and voice message is send to SMR and SMR sends the voice message to HUB station via Satellite communication system.en_US
