Abstract: Extrusion and injection moulding play important role in the manufacture of rubber products. Injection moulding machine is widely used for making plastic and rubber parts. Different types of plastics are used in for making machine parts and routine life things. Now in some cases as a alternative of plastic material rubber is used, as some properties of rubber are similar to plastic and can be replaced with plastic easily. So rubber injection moulding machine is used to make rubber products. While making rubber products some difficulties occurs in injection unit while plasticizing the rubber. Difficulties like low flow rate of rubber, homogeneity of rubber material, vulcanization of rubber, change in viscosity etc. Also there is a big problem of wear and corrosion of plasticizing screw which needs to be solved. So need to make plasticizing screw to overcome those problems. Before making plasticizing screw study of Rheology is required for different rubber materials. Here, study for EPDM material is done and properties are used to make plasticizing screw. From some empirical relations the design of screw is made. Two different designs were made to overcome the above stated problem in plasticizing process. To reduce the wear and corrosion from the surface of plasticizing screw different coating of plasticizing screw can be perform rather than nitriding.
