Abstract: Metal spin forming is one of the ancient metal forming processes which is now a day become popular due to its immense advantages over other metal forming processes. There are several complexities associated with the spin forming process. Different metal requires different forces and different procedures to generate desired shape of the product. The uniformity of thickness is also an important aspect to consider in manufacturing with the spinning process. Present work is aimed to perform the experimental investigation of the metal spinning process with a spring loaded tool. To achieve the goal first FE simulation is required to be carried out. In the present work, the idealization of the spin forming process is done using LS-DYNA explicit solver. Resultant force and stress generated in different material blanks of different thickness during metal spin forming process are studied. Conceptual models of the tool are developed using Creo Parametric 3.0 and among them the best suitable tool is fabricated and experiments have been carried out using the same.
