Moulded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB) is a type of electrical protection device used to protect electrical load from abnormal conditions i.e. short circuit and overload. It is used as a protection device in Industries, Commercial, Institutional buildings and other applications involving motor, lighting loads etc. This project focuses on current rating upgradation of 800A rating MCCB to 1000A. This development is being proposed in double break contact system of available MCCBs. This thesis has enhanced the knowledge base in designing of current path for current rat- ing upgradation, software simulation of MCCB, prototype validation, geometric dimensioning and tolerance, routing and type testing there need and testing methodology. The objective of this thesis is to analyse the thermal performance of existing 800A MCCB through test results using software simulation and to compare the results with practical test cases. Further the current path is improved which is required for current rating upgradation by doing modifications. The improvements are based on simulation results and design feasibility study.en_US
