In today's world, reliability of power supply is main point of concern for economic escalation of any country. To thrive this continuity, protection system needs to be reliable. For assessment of any protection system, sheer knowledge of fault current at different available voltage of system is required. As to brace reliability of power system, proper thermal ratings of switchgear equipment must be identified according to fault level and subsequently relay coordination is achieved. Prior to relay coordination, knowledge of fault current must be required. When several relays are involved, coordination of all relay operation in a particular zone is complex and re- quires optimization. This project provides systematic study and calculation of fault level and relay coordination of distribution network using soft computing techniques. The work reported here presents the ETAP simulation and different algorithm for short circuit analysis and relay coordination. Symmetrical and asymmetrical, both types of fault have been extensively examined here to identify minimum and maxi- mum fault current. Simulation and results have been compared and validated using different methods.en_US
