dc.description.abstractType 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) is a severe metabolic disorder in which prevalence has been increasing consistently worldwide. It is among one of the most challenging healthcare problems of 21st century. Cure for the disease is yet to be found. However, there are various pharmacological agents present which have been proven to be effective for treatment like metformin, a biguanide which is still used as first line of treatment for T2D. There are various other drugs also but has side effects and complications in long run. Various evidences proves a direct connection of gut microflora and type 2 diabetes. Gut microflora dysbiosis causes metabolic dysregulation, immunomodulation and insulin resistance. There are also reports that gut microflora modulation in mice through various agents can cause reversal of inflammation and insulin resistance. Today, it is known that prevention helps. Chitosan is a prebiotic and has been reported to alter the gut microbome and reduces inflammation and hence preventing insulin resistance. This thesis discusses the role of “chitosan microformulation” in modulation of gut microflora, immuneregulation and reversal of insulin resistance as preventive strategy in HSFD fed rats.en_US
