Abstract: A classical Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation, Trikatu was assessed for its anti-pathogenic potential against multi drug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Caenorhabditis elegans was used as model host. 100μg/ml Trikatu conferred 47.8%* survival benefit in worms which were challenged with Trikatu treated bacteria. Trikatu can modulate the pyocyanin pigment production of P. aeruginosa. This formulation can inhibit biofilm formation and can also eradicate pre-formed biofilm. Trikatu did not show any negative or positive effect on probiotic strain Bifidobacterium bifidum. These results validate antipathogenic potential of one of most widely used polyherbal ayurvedic formulations called Trikatu.
