Abstract: | Hypertension (HTN) is widely considered by many to be the considered to be the primary cause of nearly 57% of stroke and 24% of coronary illness cases in India. Recent investigations into the prevalence of Hypertension have come to a concrete conclusion that hypertension in rampant in almost a quarter to one-third of the urban and nearly a tenth to a fifth of the rural populace of India. This amounts to roughly an estimated 100-110 million people suffering from hypertension (BP). Around half to two-thirds of these patients suffer from what is clinically termed as stage I hypertension (systolic BP 140 to 150 or potentially diastolic BP 90 to 100 mm Hg) and the rest have stage II - III ailment. There tends to be an abysmally low rate of awareness, treatment and identification of the status of hypertension in India, especially more widespread among the hinterland residents than in urban populaces. Determinants of low hypertension treatment and control are non-urban hinterland areas, backwards socio-economic background and high illiteracy status and female sexual orientation. General precautions for one’s own wellbeing are significant in tackling hypertension and extensive training of medical personnel is required to be undertaken for better treatment and control of the ailment. A comprehensive and in-depth review of papers was done for understanding the prevalence of hypertension in different parts of the country and among people of different age, sex, occupation, etc. and additional material was reviewed for gaining an insight into the same. A comprehensive survey was undertaken better understand the current prevalence of hypertension among people, to look into the various factors that affected hypertension to gain an insight about the selection of molecule for the patients suffering from hypertension. The survey contained a total of 28 questions and some general questions (like name, email id and designation, etc. of physician). The survey form was supplied via digital link. A total of 113 doctors completed the survey. The survey was taken from general practicing physicians as they are the ones in contact with a large number of patients and are aware of the changing trends and can give a broad outlook towards the broad trends prevalent in the population. After that the data was analyzed for each and every question. After analyzing the data, we attempted to draw a clear picture from it to determine the current scenario regarding the prevalence of hypertension, factors affecting it, awareness among people regarding it and criteria for selecting a drug that was most suitable for treatment. |
