Abstract: In this project work, it is attempted to develop an automation system for loading and unloading of forming article in cup forming press. A press attachment is developed which loads and unloads the forming article. First attachment developed is for ‘C’ type press. Attachment is of pick and place type. The system is rotary transfer and linear pick up. The time gap between loading raw material for press is maintained by indexing mechanism. All the parts of mechanism are designed for safety and checked for strength. The automation system is synchronized with the press speed, so that the press can run at a speed of 60 SPM. The system is flexible to accommodate all items used on press. But the single draw back of the system is that it has to stop in between for about 15 sec to allow indexing of raw material stack. Modeling and assembly of parts is done on Pro-E wildfire-2 software. Second attachment is developed for ‘H’ type tooling. This is a linear pick and place system with only two indexing station. It also keeps a buffer stock so that the press runs continuously. The whole system is synchronized with the motion of the press punch. The system is quite simple and cheap as well as easy to manufacture and assemble. This system increases the production by almost 2 times. Entire modeling and assembly of parts is done on Pro-E wildfire-2 software.
