Regulatory Requirements And Comparative Study Of Veterinary Products In Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda And South Africa

Abstract

Veterinary medicinal products basically deal with prevention, control, diagnosis, injury, and treatment of various disorders in animals. It also deals with animal rearing, husbandry, breeding, research on nutrition and product development. The scope of veterinary medicine covers all animal species, both domestic and wild. Veterinary science helps human health through the monitoring and control of zoonotic disease. They also help to maintain food supply through livestock health monitoring and treatment, and mental health by keeping pets healthy and long-living. Just like the humans, animals also require the medicine to cure the physical or the mental disability. Africa has the largest proportion of intact natural ecosystems, biodiversity. Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda are a major part of East African community (EAC). EAC is an inter-governmental organization made up of 6 countries. In EAC and South Africa tens of millions of pastoralists, agro-pastoralists and other farmers rely on livestock as important sources of food and income. The veterinary medicinal market has shown substantial growth in the past few years in these region and ultimately total demand of veterinary medicinal products has improved in these countries. And the sales of these products are expected to rise significantly in next few years. Therefore, the regulatory body of these countries has started to develop more stringent standards for veterinary products. For the successful drug registration in these regions, these regulation plays an important role for improving the registration process. Therefore, this thesis highlights regulatory requirement for Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and South Africa and also distinguish them for greater understanding for registration and filling of dossier for veterinary medicinal products
