Abstract: Today low power devices like Netbooks and Tablets have started appearing in the market and they are being used in day to day activities. The End-User has seen the need for a faster and more capable system to work on. So, the race to increase the performance of the system has already started. Among the parts which can be optimized, one is System Controller Unit also known as SCU. SCU is an ARC Microcontroller. It plays major role during the booting of the system and also while the system is running. Current implementation of SCU is not optimized. The main objective of this thesis work is to optimize the current SCU model in such a way that it can fully utilize all the resources available to it and hence it can provide better performance in terms of time and power. This thesis work is mainly concentrated on the firmware part of the SCU.
