Abstract: Permanent magnet (PM) motors are witnessing increased applications in industrial as well as domestic area because of continuous development in permanent magnet material technology and semiconductor devices. Permanent magnet motors offer high efficiency, high power density, high torque to current ratio, fast dynamic response and wide speed range. In radial flux permanent magnet motor flux is established in radial direction and current flows in axial direction. Apart from many advantages it has disadvantage of high torque ripple. High torque ripple creates vibration and noise. It is necessary to reduce torque ripple to achieve smooth operation. Efficiency and cogging torque are main performance parameters of PM motor. Torque ripple can be reduced by reducing cogging torque. Effect of application of superior magnetic material and shaping of magnetic sections of motor is analyzed using finite element software. Project aims to improve performance of PMBLDC motor by enhancing efficiency.
